Mag Dog: Inside the Secret World of Muammat Gaddafi [Full documentary]

BBC Discovers Gaddafi's Hit Squads Based in Cuba

In the documentary film, "Mad Dog – Gaddafi's Secret World," the BBC has:

"[U]ncovered evidence that Gaddafi used a private hit squad based in Cuba to eliminate opponents, and kept the bodies of victims in freezers."

Of course, the close ties and friendship between the Castro brothers and Gaddafi are well-known.

This must-see documentary sheds lights on the torture, kidnapping and rape of young girls and boys by the Libyan dictator; his depraved sex dungeons and clinics; and political hit squads (based in Cuba).

It also features how Gaddafi shot down a Libyan jet in 1992, killing all 157 people on board, to "show" how international sanctions were hurting Libyans by depriving their planes of spare parts.

Interestingly enough, a Daily Mail article on the film also includes the "re-emergence" of an American fugitive harbored in Cuba, who confirmed the existence of these hit-squads:

"In a secret interview from Cuba, former CIA agent Frank Terpil said: ‘I would say [it was] Murder Incorporated .  .  . murder for hire. Gaddafi thought that anybody who was a dissident, they [should be] eliminated, he had contracts out on a bunch of people in London.’"

Terpil is a former CIA agent turned soldier of fortune, who is wanted by the U.S. for selling arms and nuclear technology to the Uganda's Idi Amin and Libya's Gaddafi.

Obviously, he's still in Cuba.

Libya's loot: South African banks may hold $1B in gold, diamonds stolen by Qaddafi

More than a billion dollars in cash, gold and diamonds believed looted by late Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi during his 40-year reign may have been found socked away in South Africa -- just a fraction of the wealth the dead dictator is suspected of stealing.
Libyan investigators, who believe Qaddafi may have taken as much as $100 billion of his North African nation’s wealth, have zeroed in on $1 billion or more being held by four banks and two security companies in South Africa, according to The Sunday Times of South Africa.
Libyan authorities, who are working with the Arab League and Interpol, believe stolen assets are squirreled away all over the world. The stolen loot is the sum of years of treating one of the world’s richest countries as his own piggy bank, according to Prof. Shaul Gabbay, a Middle East expert and senior scholar at the University of Denver.
“There was,of course, no transparency and he and his family's dealings with the nation’s wealth was as if it was their own,” said Gabbay. “This includes total control of the management of state and personal bank accounts.
- Professor Shaul Gabbay, a Middle East expert and senior scholar at the University of Denver
“People who worked in auditing or government ministries would be afraid for their and their family's lives if they would raise any concern,” he added.
Some assets have been easy to seize, such as the $16 million mansion Qaddafi’s son Saadi owned in an exclusive London neighborhood. But tracing money in secret bank accounts and hidden investments is a much more complex process, especially given that the money being sought was likely taken by a host of Qaddafi loyalists.
"These assets are really difficult to find and also difficult to claim back," Libya's deputy ambassador to London, Ahmed Gebreel, told the BBC last year.
Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur has vowed to pursue the trail of looted funds, much of which are believed to be held in banks in Switzerland, the UK, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
But to date, the $1 billion-plus believed held in South Africa could be the biggest haul. The Sunday Times reported that Libyan investigators have already met top government officials to discuss locating and repatriating the loot.
A follow-up letter sent by ANC head of security Tito Maleka on April 23 confirms that the visit "with our president in Nkandla" is an indication that "the South African government is prepared to cooperate" in "identifying all assets belonging to the Libyan people".
Investigators tracing the funds are believed to be acting on information from Libya's former intelligence chief, Abdullah al-Senussi, who was arrested last year for crimes against humanity. Letters from Libyan officials quoted by the newspaper seek for cooperation in securing "all funds and assets that have been illegally possessed, obtained, looted, deposited or hidden in South Africa and neighboring countries” by the dictator, “his wives, his sons, his daughters and other relatives, close associates, private and government [or] business persons in Africa."
The letters say that the Libyan investigators have "uncovered large funds and assets in South Africa and neighboring states." One bank account, which investigators claim was traced through check stubs found in Libya, is registered in the name of Qaddafi’s uncle, Abdulhafid Ahmed el-Qaddafi, a former Libyan Army general.
They are convinced that part of the loot in South Africa is held by Qaddafi's former chief of staff, Bashir Saleh, known as "Qaddafi's banker." Saleh, who also goes by Bashir al Shrkawi, is on Interpol's wanted list.
In the weeks before a mob yanked Qaddafi out of a drainpipe and killed him in October 2011, the longtime despot was on the run and rumored to have fled the desert nation. Reports of Niger-bound convoys of his wives and family members, laden with gold and cash, were common as the civil war that toppled him raged.
In addition to gold and cash, another of the oil-rich nation’s greatest treasures disappeared in the chaos of the 2011 revolution. Interpol alerted police around the globe of the theft of the so-called “Benghazi Treasure,” which was stolen from a bank vault in May 2011. The looted treasure, which includes Greek and Roman gold, had been stored in two padlocked chests inside a safe. It had never been displayed and had been virtually forgotten, except by specialist archaeologists, according to The Art Newspaper.
Some of the treasure has reportedly surfaced in Egypt and on the black market in Libya. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Director-General Irina Bukova has called the loss of the Benghazi treasure “one of the largest thefts of archaeological material in history.”

Libya claims stake in Saadi Gaddafi’s $1.6M Toronto condo

Saadi Gadhafi speaks during a press conference in Tripoli, 2010. The Libyan government has set its eyes on a deluxe apartment in the Toronto skyline.
A lavish lakefront condo owned by the son of toppled despot Muammar Gadhafi has been claimed by Lybian authorities that assumed control of the North African nation following an uprising that deposed the government last year.
The National Post reports the Libyan government has filed an application with Ontario's land registry office claiming ownership of the condo owned by Saadi Gadhafi.
With the help of the United Nations, Lybia has been moving to reclaim the Gadhafi family's billions of dollars worth of international assets, claiming they are the rightful property of the Libyan people.
Tim Wimborne-Reuters/Saadi Gaddafi, the third son of Muammar Gaddafi, in 2005.
Saadi's Toronto condo had apparently went unnoticed until the National Post's Stewart Bell reported on it in December.
Saadi, the former leader of Libya's Special Forces and once-footballer, has already been ordered to turn over the keys of an eight-bedroom British mansion reportedly purchased with Libyan oil funds.
According to BBC, Saadi, considered the playboy and black sheep of the Gadhafi clan, was granted asylum in Niger after his family's government was toppled last year. An effort to smuggle him into Mexico was stopped by that government in December.
Michael Lamb, a real estate law professor at the University of Western Ontario, told the Post that Gadhafi cannot sell the Toronto condo until the Libyan government's claim has been dealt with in court.
He was probably waiting for the housing market to turn around, anyway.

Saadi Gaddafi’s Canadian Connection

A second scheme to bring him to a property near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, was also planned but Mr. Peters told the Post last week it was scrubbed in June because the necessary travel documents could not be legally obtained from the Mexican government.
Tyler Anderson/National Post

An associate of Mr. Peters, Cynthia Vanier, was arrested in Mexico City a month ago. Mexican authorities have not charged her, but they have detained her for being the alleged ringleader of a plot to smuggle Mr. Gaddafi and his family to Mexico using false documents.

Mr. Peters said while Ms. Vanier was involved in the Mexico operation, it was all being done legally. Her family says the mother of two and mediation consultant from Mount Forest, Ont., is innocent or is being used by others.
The allegations of fleeing to Mexico have overshadowed Mr. Gaddafi’s ties to Canada. “He loves Canada,” Mr. Peters told the Post in an interview in October. “That’s why he keeps coming back here every year. He’s got investments here, he’s got property here.”
Mr. Gaddafi fled to Niger in September. The government there has granted him asylum and says it will not hand him over to Libya, which wants to try him for alleged abuses he committed while he headed the Libyan Football Federation. He is wanted on an Interpol warrant but has denied any wrongdoing.
Residents of the condo tower were stunned to hear the high-profile playboy and late dictator’s son could have lived among them. Showed a photo of Mr. Gaddafi, they said they had not seen him around the building.
Ryan Singh, who has lived there since 2005, was intrigued but not surprised. “They probably own places all over the world,” he said. Added Golnaz Tajewdin, a resident for some two years: “It may be a surprise that he has a unit in this building, but I’m not surprised he has an apartment in Toronto.” Another resident, who gave only his first name, David, also expressed little shock. “I mean, it’s an investment, right,” he said. A 26-year-old resident who declined to give her name said if she were as rich as the Gaddafis, she would have bought a more luxurious home. “They should just seize the unit if it was bought with funds against human rights.”
Read it first in the National Post
The National Post’s Stewart Bell also reported exclusively on the plot to smuggle the Libyan dictator’s third son Saadi Gaddafi into Mexico.(Saadi has since fled to Niger.)
Below, in chronological order, Stewart Bell’s complete coverage of the story.
The Ontario man who helped Muammar Gaddafi’s son flee Libya
October 29, 2011: A private security contractor and former soldier from Canada admitted he helped Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s son Saadi flee Libya in September as Tripoli was falling to anti-Gaddafi rebels.
Gary Peters, president of Can/Aus Security & Investigations International Inc. in Cambridge, Ont., was also Saadi Gaddafi’s longtime bodyguard and admitted he was part of a team that drove the late dictator’s third son across Libya’s southern border to Niger.
The convoy was ambushed after it had crossed back into Libya and Mr. Peters was shot. He returned to Toronto’s Pearson airport in September, bleeding heavily from an untreated bullet wound to his left shoulder.
Bodyguard sought help with Gaddafi son’s escape; Ontario man offered to pay contractors $1,000 a day
October 31, 2011:
Gary Peters was offering $1,000 a day to security contractors who would help extract Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s son Saadi to the Caribbean earlier this year, a source told Bell.
The source said that after the start of NATO air strikes in Libya, the head of a Cambridge, Ont.-based security company tried to assemble a team to transport Saadi Gaddafi to Barbados or Venezuela.
Canadian with ties to Libya arrested in Mexico
November 10, 2011: Cynthia Vanier, a Canadian who led a fact-finding mission to Libya last summer, is arrested in Mexico. (On December 7, Mexican authorities announced Ms. Vanier was the accused ringleader of a plot that included opening fake bank accounts and acquiring various properties in Mexico that would act as safe houses for the Gaddafi kin.)
The jailed consultant, the Gaddafi bodyguard and the Canadian engineering giant
November 29, 2011: During the final weeks of the anti-Gaddafi revolution in Libya, an Ontario consultant who specializes in mediating First Nations disputes assembled a small team to travel to Tripoli for a 10-day, fact-finding mission.
Cynthia Vanier of Vanier Consulting hired a private jet from Veritas Worldwide Security, a San Diego-based company that advertises, among other services, “clandestine operations,” “armed combat” and provision of weapons.
While Ms. Vanier has declined to disclose who paid for the dangerous and costly expedition (Veritas said its contract alone was worth more than US$80,000), the National Post has learned SNC-Lavalin hired the firm, although the company said it was unaware Gary Peters, a former Australian soldier from Ontario who was working as a bodyguard for the Gaddafi family, was involved.
Fact-finding mission led to pro-Gaddafi report; Libya mission consultant hired by SNC Lavalin
The report of a privately-funded Canadian fact-finding mission that traveled to Libya last summer as Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was clinging to power was one-sided and reflected a view of the conflict that the regime was actively promoting, according to those familiar with its contents.
The Vanier Consulting study was impartially titled “Fact Finding Report — Mission Date July 17, 2011-July 26, 2011,” but several people who have seen it called it pro-Gaddafi and said it claimed NATO forces and Libyan rebels had committed atrocities and war crimes.
Sun, celebrities & Saadi; A Gaddafi’s lost Mexican refuge; Dictator’s son planned escape to luxurious home in trendy Punta Mita

December 7, 2011: After Libyans turned against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in February, his playboy son Saadi made plans to flee to a Mexican beach resort whose celebrity visitors include Kim Kardashian, Charlie Sheen and Lady Gaga.
Although the United Nations had frozen Saadi Gaddafi’s assets and banned him from crossing borders because of his close ties to the Libyan dictatorship, a multi-million-dollar refuge awaited him in Punta Mita, a posh development near Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific Coast.
To get him there, a Canadian company, Can/Aust Security and Investigations International, approached private security contractors in Ontario, offering $1,000-a-day to join the team that would pick up the 38-year-old Gaddafi and fly him, his wife and children out of Libya.
Montreal firm covered security for Saadi Gaddafi’s 2008 visit to Canada
December 7, 2011: The Montreal engineering and construction company SNC-Lavalin footed the bill for Saadi Gaddafi’s private security team when the Libyan dictator’s son spent three months in Canada in 2008.
Asked why it had paid for Gaddafi’s Garda security contract, SNC-Lavalin spokeswoman Leslie Quinton responded, “For certain diplomatic guests, we provide complete hospitality and other services as needed.”
December 8, 2011: After a career of working in First Nations communities such as Ipperwash and Attawapiskat, mediating conflicts over land and resources, Cynthia Vanier ventured overseas last summer and waded into the conflict in Libya.
“She’s very kind,” said Mahmod Razwan, a Libyan-Canadian who accompanied her on her visit to wartime Tripoli. “She cries when she sees certain people getting hurt and she’s really genuine when she talks to people.”
But on Wednesday, Mexican authorities offered a less humanitarian view of Ms. Vanier, naming her as the suspected ringleader of a plot to smuggle Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s playboy son Saadi to Mexico using fraudulent travel documents.

Saadi Gaddafi’s $1.6M Toronto condo: dictator’s son owns penthouse near waterfront

Tyler Anderson/National Post
Tyler Anderson/National Post
Nice place, shame about the neighbours: A condo building at 10 Navy Warf Cr. where Saadi Gadaffi owns a 40th-floor penthouse in Toronto.

By Stewart Bell and Natalie Alcoba
TORONTO — The Gaddafi family owns a $1.6-million penthouse apartment in downtown Toronto that has apparently gone unnoticed by the Canadian and Libyan governments, the National Post has learned.
The luxury condo atop the Harbor View Estates building on the Toronto waterfront comes with a view of Lake Ontario and access to a 25-metre swimming pool, squash, basketball and tennis courts and a bowling alley.
Although the United Nations Security Council ordered countries to freeze the Gaddafis’ worldwide assets in response to Libya’s crackdown on demonstrators, Ontario property records still list the condo’s owner as “Saadi Kaddafi.”
Three sources confirmed the condo is owned by the late dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s third son, Saadi. Ontario government land records also list him as the owner of four other units in the same building, but they appear to be storage lockers.

He bought the condo for $1.55-million on May 7, 2008. At the time, he was spending three months in Canada, protected by a security team paid for by the Montreal firm SNC-Lavalin, which has significant construction contracts in Libya.
The Security Council imposed an assets freeze on the entire Gaddafi family, including Saadi Gaddafi, on March 17. It described him as a commander of “military units involved in the repression of demonstrations.”
But nine months later there is no indication any action has been taken against the Toronto condo, and the monthly maintenance fees are up to date, paid out of a Swiss bank account. The UN assets freeze should make such payments impossible.
While the condo apparently sits unused, last week senior members of Libya’s new government made an urgent appeal for money to pay public-sector workers and rebuild state institutions following the anti-Gaddafi revolution.
Tyler Anderson / National Post
The lobby at 10 Navy Warf Cr.

Mustafa Abdel Jalil, chairman of the National Transitional Council, was among those who signed a letter asking the United Nations to speed up the release of the estimated $150-billion in Libyan funds frozen during the conflict.
The Gaddafis owned properties and businesses around the globe during their heyday. The condo at 10 Navy Wharf Ct., near Front Street and Spadina Avenue, is legally owned by Saadi Gaddafi rather than a Libyan state institution. But the Canadian Libyan Council wants the federal government to investigate.
“It should be returned to the transitional government, and through them it would be redistributed appropriately in the rebuilding of the country,” said Amal Abuzgaya, the Council spokeswoman.
She said Col. Gaddafi had centralized Libya’s economy, and pocketed much of its wealth. Gaddafi’s children, in particular, were known for their lavish lifestyles. “And you see things like this which are just disgusting, where they’re spending millions,” Ms. Abuzgaya said. “I mean, how often did he come to Canada, really, to have a $1.5-million penthouse?”
AFP PHOTO/Vincenzo PINTO

She said there is a dire need for cash in Libya and Canada should be tracking down the money and assets stashed away by the regime. “It’s very important that the Canadian government looks into every single asset that is here and returns that, by all means.”
The tall building, in a shell almost exclusively made of glass, is a stone’s throw from the Rogers Centre, home field of the Toronto Blue Jays, and the burgeoning CityPlace community. Next door to Mr. Gaddafi’s building, there is a Montessori daycare and a Dairy Queen.
The entrance has wood-paneled accents and the lobby is simply decorated, with boxy, cream-coloured couches, red poinsettias on the tables and a decorated Christmas tree beside a box for toy donations.
Saadi Gaddafi, 38, once a professional soccer player and later a businessman, was never as keenly involved in his father’s regime as his brother, Saif Al-Islam. He visited Canada about once a year to talk business, take courses and enjoy the Toronto nightlife, and once threw a party during the Toronto International Film Festival. Despite owning a condo, he preferred staying at hotels.
After the Libyan revolution began in February, Mr. Gaddafi allegedly looked into moving to Canada. His North American security chief, Gary Peters, said he spoke to the RCMP about it and was told Mr. Gaddafi would be arrested upon arrival.

The capture of Gadhafi's son

The chic black sweater and jeans were gone. So too the combat khaki T-shirt of his televised last stand in Tripoli. Designer stubble had become bushy black beard after months on the run.
But the rimless glasses, framing those piercing eyes above that straight fine nose, gave him away despite the flowing nomad robes held close across his face.
Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, doctor of the London School of Economics, one-time reformer turned scourge of the rebels against his dictator father, was now a prisoner, bundled aboard an old Libyan air force transport plane near the oil-drilling outpost of Obari, deep in the Sahara desert.
The interim government's spokesman billed it as the "final act of the Libyan drama." But there would be no closing soliloquy from the lead player, scion of the dynasty that Moammar Gadhafi, self-styled "king of kings," had once hoped might rule Africa.
Video: Gadhafi's son captured without fight  A Reuters reporter aboard the flight approached the 39-year-old prisoner as he huddled on a bench at the rear of the growling, Soviet-era Antonov. The man who held court to the world's media in the early months of the Arab Spring was now on a 90-minute flight bound for the town of Zintan near Tripoli. He sat frowning, silent and seemingly lost in thought for part of the way, nursing his right hand, bandaged around the thumb and two fingers. At other times he chatted calmly with his captors and even posed for a picture.
In the dead of night Gadhafi's run had come to an end just a few hours earlier, at dead of night on a desert track, as he and a handful of trusted companions tried to thread their way through patrols of former rebel fighters intent on blocking their escape over the border.

"At the beginning he was very scared. He thought we would kill him," said Ahmed Ammar, one of the 15 fighters who captured Gadhafi. The fighters, from Zintan's Khaled bin al-Waleed Brigade, intercepted the fugitives' two 4x4 vehicles 40 miles out in the desert. "But we talked to him in a friendly way and made him more relaxed and we said, 'We won't hurt you'."More >

Who killed #Gadhafi?

Disturbing images of a blood-stained and shaken Moammar Gadhafi being jostled by angry fighters quickly circulated around the world after the Libyan dictator's dramatic death near his home town of Sirte.
The exact circumstances of his demise are still unclear with conflicting accounts of his death circulating. But the footage, possibly of the last chaotic moments of Gadhafi's life, offered some clues into what happened.
Gadhafi was still alive when he was captured near Sirte. In the video, filmed by a bystander in the crowd and later aired on television around the world, Gadhafi is shown being dragged off a vehicle's bonnet and pulled to the ground by his hair.
"Keep him alive, keep him alive!" someone shouts. Gunshots then ring out. The camera veers off.
"They captured him alive and while he was being taken away, they beat him and then they killed him," one senior source in Libya's ruling National Transitional Council told Reuters. "He might have been resisting."
In what appeared to contradict the events depicted in the video, the council said Gadhafi was killed when a gunfight broke out after his capture between his supporters and government fighters. He died from a bullet wound to the head.
It said no order had been given to kill him.
"'Gadhafi was taken out of a sewage pipe ... he didn't show any resistance. When we started moving him he was hit by a bullet in his right arm and when they put him in a truck he did not have any other injuries,''' Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril told a news conference, reading from a forensic report.
"'When the car was moving it was caught in crossfire between the revolutionaries and Gadhafi forces in which he was hit by a bullet in the head,''' Jibril said reading from the report.
"The forensic doctor could not tell if it came from the revolutionaries or from Gadhafi's forces,'' Jibril said.

Gadhafi was alive when he was taken from Sirte, but died a few minutes before reaching hospital, the prime minister said.
'He called us rats' Gadhafi called the rebels who rose up against his 42 years of one-man rule "rats," but in the end it was he who was captured cowering in a drainage pipe full of rubbish and filth.
"He called us rats, but look where we found him," said Ahmed Al Sahati, a 27-year-old government fighter, standing next to two stinking drainage pipes under a six-lane highway near Sirte.
On the ground, government fighters and the scenes of sheer carnage nearby told the story of the dictator's final hours.
Shortly before dawn prayers on Thursday, Gadhafi, surrounded by a few dozen loyal bodyguards and accompanied by the head of his now non-existent army Abu Bakr Younis Jabr, broke out of the two-month siege of Sirte and made a break for the west.
But they did not get far.
U.S. officials told NBC News that a Predator drone fired a Hellfire missile and a NATO warplane also launched a missile at the 15-vehicle convoy about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, destroying several vehicles and scattering the rest. French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet said a French aircraft was involved in the attack.
Some two miles west of Sirte, 15 pickup trucks mounted with heavy machine guns lay burned out, smashed and smoldering next to an electricity sub station some 20 meters from the main road.
They had clearly been hit by a force far beyond anything the motley army the former rebels has assembled during eight months of revolt to overthrow the once feared leader.
But there was no bomb crater, indicating the strike may have been carried out by a helicopter gunship, or that it had been strafed by a fighter jet.
'My master is here' Inside the trucks still in their seats sat the charred skeletal remains of drivers and passengers killed instantly by the strike. Other bodies lay mutilated and contorted strewn across the grass. Some 50 bodies in all.
Gadhafi himself and a handful of his men escaped death and appeared to have run through a stand of trees toward the main road and hid in the two drainage pipes.
But a group of government fighters were on their tail.
"At first we fired at them with anti-aircraft guns, but it was no use," said Salem Bakeer, while being feted by his comrades near the road. "Then we went in on foot.
"One of Gadhafi's men came out waving his rifle in the air and shouting surrender, but as soon as he saw my face he started shooting at me," he told Reuters.

(el-alto-sueño);

le pidieron las piernas

duras y nudosas

¿No me envidias?”.
